Tonight, the home team, Houston Astros with a (3-2) series lead bid for their third pennant in game 6 on Fox Sports 1, vs the New York Yankees, the latter forcing a 6th game last night, in quest of their 41st pennant.
Once again Fox got a longer LCS than TBS, which telecast the Nationals sweep of the Cardinals in the NLCS.
In 13 seasons (’07-2019) of both Fox and TBS each telecasting one LCS, Fox gets its 80th game tonight (maybe an 81st tomorrow night) an average of over 6 per season.
Meanwhile TBS has averaged a 5 game series, 65 games in those 13 seasons. They had but one 7 game series, that the ’08 ALCS and this was the 5th time they had a 4 game sweep. Only in ’08 did TBS get more LCS games than Fox.
There are times when exemplary courtesy, service and yes, a good deal manifest.
There was such a case for me when Mindy and Taylor, part of “The Dream Team,” at the Banana Republic store in the Ridge Hill complex in Yonkers, New York, helped me with a purchase days back.
Their warmth, knowledge and willingness to listen made it a nice buying experience for me. Thank you again.

Today another iconic show, “I’ve got a Secret” and a segment of that show with the legendary, baseball great Ty Cobb, that aired in September 1955.
Gary Moore is the show’s host while the panelists on this show were Henry Morgan, Bill Cullen, Kitty Carlisle and Jayne Meadows.
Cobb is most personable, in sharp contrast to his image.
I have included my review of Ty’s grandson’s Herschel’s book, “Heart of a Tiger,” depicting a loving grandfather.
Enjoy the segment.

The Washington Nationals nee Montreal Expos franchise captured their first pennant, in this their 50th completed season (’69-2019, with no post-season in ’94, when it should be noted the then Montreal Expos had baseball’s best record, when the season was canceled), completing a four game NLCS sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals last night.
It is the third time the Cardinals have been swept in a best of 7 series, the first vs the great Babe Ruth/Lou Gehrig Yankees in 1928 and the more recent one, in the ’04 World Series, vs the Boston Red Sox.
The 2004 World Series victory for the Red Sox ended an 86 year title drought, while last night’s Washington Nationals pennant means World Series games will be played in the United States capital for the first time in 86 years.

Howie Kendrick, pictured above, was named NLCS MVP.
In the division series vs L.A. in the decisive 5th game, Kendrick’s top of the tenth inning, grand slam home run, essentially lifted the Nationals into the NLCS.
Today, another great episode of the iconic television show, “What’s My Line?”
The mystery guests are husband and wife actors, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. It is early in each actor’s brilliant career.
Arlene Francis, Bennett Cerf, Dorothy Kilgallen and Art Linkletter are the panelists.
John Charles Daly is the show’s host.
Enjoy!
The Washington Nationals, playing in their first LCS or any best of seven series, have a (2-0) series lead for just the second time in 8 post-season series, after winning the first two games in St. Louis.
Meanwhile, the New York Yankees handed the Houston Astros their 5th consecutive LCS loss, winning the ALCS opener in Houston.
It is the first time in 7 Astros’ LCS (4 in the National League), that they failed to win either the series opener or the first tilt in Houston.
Washington D.C.’s only baseball title (the Senators), was 95 years ago (1924), the year after the Yankees won the first of their 27 such titles.

Joe Judge was a prominent member of that 1924 Washington Senators title team.
After seeing Paul Mazursky’s name as the credits rolled after a “Gunsmoke” episode he directed, I thought about his wonderful career as a director, writer and actor.
His work included “An Unmarried Woman,” “Harry And Tonto” and “Bob& Carol& Ted& Alice,” certainly films that took us rather deeply into the mores change and exploration of self.
I recall Paul as one of the students in “Blackboard Jungle,” an excellent film with Glenn Ford and Sidney Poitier.
The “Gunsmoke” episode involved poker and it and the memory of Mr. Mazursky as a player in the “executive,” at least special poker game, on the iconic television show, “The Sopranos,” represents a good illustration of the “long winding,” great work of Paul Mazursky.

A night after the Washington Nationals won a decisive 5th game to move into the league semi-final round, the Washington Mystics won a winner take all, #5 at home vs the Connecticut Sun, to claim their first WNBA crown.
Playoffs MVP, Emma Meesseman led the way with 22 points, while Elena Delle Donne, playing through injury, added 21.
Emma Cloud hit some big shots and the Mystics (8-0) run to break a 72 all tie proved decisive in the (89-78) win.
It is the first title as head coach for Mike Thibault, who was an assistant coach on two Lakers’ title teams (’80 and ’82), the ’82 team with Bob McAdoo coming off the bench, being in my opinion, the one that would win vs any other team.
The Sun in their 21st season (’99 as the Orlando Miracle-2019) played well, (Jacquel Jones had a game high 25 points), but lost in the final for the third time, the first two under Mike Thibault.
In winning the ’80 and ’82 crowns, the Lakers with Thibault on the staff, won quarterfinal series vs the Phoenix Suns, who have now played 51 seasons (’69-2019) with nary an NBA title.

Elena Delle Donne, pictured above, played on two teams that were swept in the final, one being the Mystics last season, but now she and her fine team win in the maximum 5 games, to bring the title to “Wash” D.C.
Last Wednesday, the last two Stanley Cup champions, the current ones, the St. Louis Blues and the ’18 winners, the Washington Capitals, met in St. Louis, as the NHL season began.
A week later, teams from each city/district, the St. Louis Cardinals (a post-season record tying for any inning, 10 runs in the first inning (that a record) at Atlanta (Braves) and Washington Nationals (Howie Kendrick’s 10th inning grand slam home run in L.A. sent home sent home the Dodgers, who recorded a franchise record 106 regular season wins ), won decisive division series 5th games and will meet in the NLCS, beginning Friday night in St. Louis.
Tonight, the Houston Astros host the Tampa Bay Rays in game 5 of their “div” series, the winner of that game to face the New York Yankees, in the ALCS, beginning Saturday night.
