” In The Secret Sea,” currently at the Beckett Theatre 410 West 42nd Street, is a powerful, well acted play that not only explores some big decisions involving life, but how we can relate better to each other no matter the circumstances.
There is a life and death decision to be made and the five characters on stage, both sets of parents of the recently married couple and the husband all are well developed, vividly real and so well played by the performers.
“In The Secret Sea,” truly gripped me with its powerful story and again with the interplay within the relationships of the characters no matter the circumstances.
Cate Ryan wrote the play while Tony Award winner (Annie), Martin Charnin is the director.
The superb cast includes Glynnis O’ Connor, always a favorite of mine, in a truly memorable performance.
All giving tremendous performances, the cast includes Shelly Burch, Paul Carlin, Malachy Cleary and Adam Petherbridge. Performances are through May 21st.

After taking (1-0) series leads with opening game victories, the New York Islanders at Tampa Bay vs the Lightning and the top ranked Washington Capitals at home vs the Pittsburgh Penguins, look to go up two games to none in their NHL quarterfinal series today.
I did think both the Islanders and Capitals would win these series, but without wins today, even for the visiting Islanders, these series should be tough, maybe even with wins today for the leaders.
However, I feel both teams will win their series and meet in the NHL semis. Sure up (1-0) it can not count as a real prediction, but I say Capitals and Islanders each to win in six.

In what seems to be a compelling NBA quarterfinal round series, the NBA Western Conference two seed, San Antonio Spurs are roughly two and a half to one series favorites vs the third seed, Oklahoma City Thunder. The series begins today in San Antonio.
Though overshadowed by the Golden State Warriors’ record breaking (73-9) regular season, the Spurs record of (67-15) is nothing to scoff at.
In fact, if the Spurs do not win the NBA title, that record will be second only to the 1972-1973 Boston Celtics’ (68-14) among NBA teams that did not win the title and already is among the great NBA regular season records.
Add the fact that the likes of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili have been on multiple title teams all under coach Gregg Popovich (he and Duncan have won 5 titles, Parker and Ginobili 4 each) and my prediction has to be San Antonio (vs Oklahoma City), say in a tough 6 game series.

In what figures to be quite a race in the National League East, the Washington Nationals started off beating the so called bad teams like the Atlanta Braves (6 times in 6 games) (until further notice the Braves can be considered a bad big league team)) and the Philadelphia Phillies in their first two games.
Meanwhile the New York Mets started slower, in the very early season, which still is less than a month old.
However, it is worth noting that the Phillies just completed a tree game sweep of the Nationals in Washington and are two games over the .500 mark. “Philly” also won the last game at Washington after dropping the aforementioned first two games.
Also the Mets just swept still “bad” teams, the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds in a pair of three game series. Thus entering play on the penultimate day of April, the Mets are just one half game behind the Nationals.

One of the three game six tilts tonight matches the second seed, (56-26) Toronto Raptors and the seven seed, Indiana Pacers.
Though leading the series three games to two, first off the Raptors were fortunate to win game 5 and have that lead and this struggle vs 7th seed Indiana likely does not augur well for Toronto’s chances to possibly upset the Cleveland Cavaliers down the road in the Eastern Conference finals.
I think it would greatly benefit the Raptors to win game 6 tonight, get ready for the Charlotte Hornets/Miami Heat series winner (Charlotte leads three games to two) and maybe get it together in that series before facing the Cleveland Cavaliers/Atlanta Hawks series winner.

Both NHL Western Conference semi-final series begin tonight.
The two top rated teams meet in what is the Central Division bracket while the third ranked Pacific Division team has home ice advantage vs a third Central Division team.
Though second ranked, having finished tied for first in points in both the Central division and NHL West, but losing the tiebreaker, the St. Louis Blues are slight favorites vs the NHL West top seed, Dallas Stars.
In what amounts to the Pacific Division bracket, the San Jose Sharks are about nine to five favorites vs the Central Division, 4th place team and first conference wild card team, the Nashville Predators.
Both the Sharks and Predators defeated Los Angeles area, higher ranked Pacific Division teams, the L.A. Kings (2nd in the Pacific Division) and Anaheim Ducks (first in the Pacific Division) respectively in the first round.
Only the Dallas Stars, among the 4 NHL West semi-final teams, has ever won a Stanley Cup or a Stanley Cup finals game for that matter. They won it all in 1999.

Pekka Rinne, the Nashville Predators’ goaltender, pictured above, led them into the second round where they will face the San Jose Sharks.
While the Golden State Warriors rolled past the Houston Rockets at home, to wrap up their series in 5 games, two NBA teams won on the road, to take (3-2) series leads last night.
First the Charlotte Hornets, seeking their first playoff series win since 1997, won at Miami in game 5, vs the Heat.
Later last night the Portland Trail Blazers, actually 3 point favorites on the road vs the dismantled Los Angeles Clippers, won easily.
L.A. is without star players Chris Paul and Blake Griffin which is unfortunate. That likely will manifest in the fact that for all 46 seasons in franchise history, which includes when they were the Buffalo Braves and San Diego Clippers, the team will have failed to reach the NBA semi-finals.

The New York Islanders seeking their first NHL semi-final appearance since 1993 won the series opener at Tampa Bay vs the Lightning last night.
Tampa opened the series as about an 8 to 5 favorite but those odds will now be a little higher say 9 to 5 but in favor of the Islanders.
Playing in their first year in Brooklyn, New York the Islanders’ playoff success has revitalized the franchise after the move from Long Island where they played in their first 42 completed seasons from (1972-1973) – (2014-2015.) There was no NHL season in (2004-2005).
A once glorious team that won 4 Stanley Cup crowns in a row (1980-1983) and made semi-final appearances 9 times in 10 seasons (1975-1984), the Islanders won just their second playoff series ever without legendary coach Al Arbour when they beat the Florida Panthers in the opening round of this year’s playoffs.
Arbour died last year and the Islanders’ uniforms have “Al” on them. The only other time the Isles won a playoff series without Arbour as coach was in 1987 under Terry Simpson. Their current coach is Jack Capuano.

Tonight the defending NBA champion and record setting, top record Golden State Warriors seek to wrap up their first round series vs the Houston Rockets.
The Warriors, without star Steph Curry, likely for at least two weeks, are still big favorites to end the series tonight. They have a (3-1) series lead, going into tonight’s home game.
I predicted the Warriors in 5, saying they would win and cover the spread in game four which they did despite the loss of Curry.
Tonight 9 point favorite, Golden State 105 Houston 98.
