One W.S. Redux This Weekend

While there are a number of LCS rematches this weekend, there is only one World Series redux.

That matches the (80-60) Yankees, now just 3 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the A.L. one seed that the prize for the one eighth/A.L. East crown, at San Diego vs the (73-67) Padres.

The Yankees swept the “Pads” in 4 straight games, capping their historic 125 total wins, 1998 season.

Their manager then, still so under appreciated, Joe Torre made his first post-season despite his ’82 Braves losing at San Diego. That day a Joe Morgan three run home run was the big blow, by far as the Giants, in effect knocked the Dodgers out, clinching Torre’s first ever post-season appearance.

He was an excellent hitter, who like Ernie Banks, among some other exce players, never played in a post-season tilt.
