This week is one of palindrome numbers, as one writes out the dates, in the following format (m/dd/yy).
The unique situation started on September 10th and ends September 19th, next week.
For example September 10, 2019 written in the format is (9 10 19 which backwards, is also 9 10 19).
Today, the famed or infamous, “Friday the Thirteenth” is 9 13 19 and writing it out, backwards it is also 9 13 19.

Monday, as I headed for an appointment on 7th Avenue, around 35th Street, I walked toward a slight crowd that had gathered as the (retired? former?) great tight end, Rob Gronkowski was standing eating a slice, a big slice, of pizza.
Leave it to the man called “Gronk,” to be doing just that and also to be a part of speculation, he might return to football.
He may, however, I say he will not.
I did get a question out even as the crowd increased. It was regarding his big catch that set up the Sony Michel short touchdown run, the game’s only touchdown, as the Patriots won their 6th Super Bowl title.
After a delay, Rob answered calling it a great catch and one of the biggest in his career which likely? is over, but alas …..
Mr. Gronkowski, enjoying a slice of pizza, Kudos to him, for taking a big “slice” out of life.
Pete Richert, a fine left handed relief pitcher played on 3 straight pennant winning teams with the Baltimore Orioles from (1969-1971).
He also was on L.A. Dodgers’ teams that first lost an unscheduled playoff for the N.L. crown in 1962 and then a World Series winner the next season.
In his first game, Richert set a record striking out the first six batters he faced over three different innings. One of the hitters in that ’62 Dodgers vs Reds game was future teammate on the ’70 World Series winning Baltimore Orioles, the great Frank Robinson.
James Earl Carter ascended to the presidency in 1976.
A mere 3 years before becoming U.S. President, Carter was the mystery guest on What’s My Line.
History, hindsight, circumstance all combine to make this fascinating viewing.

After Bianca Andreescu won the Saturday U.S. Open women’s final in straight sets vs Serena Williams, the latter again failing in the final after the road was paved for her, Rafael Nadal won his 19th major title Sunday, in an epic 5 set U.S. Open Men’s final vs Daniil Medvedev.
Maybe Canada is not “allowed” in their beloved hockey, but this year the Toronto Raptors won the NBA crown and Ms. Andreescu, a 19 year old Canadian, denied Williams and what would have been disproportionate praise had she won, to win a major tennis title.
Nadal and Medvedev played a great final, Nadal winning sets 1,2, and 5 on a day “The Guy” won all three.

In (same calendar) 1991, the Minnesota Twins won a fantastic 7 game World Series vs the Atlanta Braves.
Both franchises, barring the truly unforeseen, will win one eighth division titles these 28 years later and be among the 8 teams playing best of 5 division series, in the upcoming baseball tournament.
Only the Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings is an opening game NFL tilt that matches cities whose baseball teams are even in playoff position at this point, 3 weeks from the regular season conclusion.
As stated, each will be one of eight and just maybe there will be a redux of one of the greatest World Series ever played, the aforementioned Twins/Braves 1991, 7 game Twins’ triumph.

Both Rafael Nadal (vs Daniil Medvedev) and Serena Williams (vs Bianca Andreescu)) are big favorites to complete their almost completely “paved roads” to U.S. Open Tennis crowns.
Somehow, Williams, who was the 8th seed, again avoided (see Wimbledon) the tougher opponents and today is a 3 to 1 favorite vs Andreescu in the 4 P.M. Eastern Time final.
Nadal, roughly a 5 to 1 favorite vs Medvedev in tomorrow’s 4 P.M. Eastern Time final and tournament second seed, was on the other side of the draw from Novak Djokovic, the top seed and Roger Federer, thus at worst would face one. It turns out he faces neither.
So often in sports and for that matter, life–some get the far easier road.
“Bat Out Of Hell” (currently playing at City Center), is a superb musical play with book, music and lyrics by Jim Steinman, a major cog in the success of such as “Meat Loaf” and Bonnie Tyler to name just two.
The great songs are cleverly placed into the story and a great cast makes this a most entertaining event.
Andrew Polec as “Strat,” Christina Bennington “Raven,” Bradley Dean (“Falco”) and Lena Hall “Sloane”) head the cast.
“You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth,” “Paradise By The Dashboard Lights,” staged brilliantly and “Bat Out Of Hell” are just three of the great songs that help make the play so enjoyable.

Today a great episode of “What’s My Line?” that aired on January 9, 1955.
There were two mystery guests, one being Tony Curtis, the other tennis star player, Billy Trabert.
The panelists were Dorothy Kilgallen, Fred Allen, Janet Leigh (married to Mr. Curtis at the time) and Bennett Cerf.
John Charles Daly celebrating his eighteenth wedding anniversary with his first wife Kit, was the show’s host.
