Remembering Red Schoendienst
Recently baseball great Albert “Red” Shoendienst passed on at the age of 95.
He played on title teams with two different franchises, the 1946 Cardinals and 1957 Milwaukee Braves while also managing the Cards to the 1967 crown.
I believe all 8 World Series for which Mr. Schoendienst was in uniform, went the full 7 games. He was a coach on the ’64 and ’82 Cards’ title teams while his ’58 Braves Red was a player), ’68 Cards (Red was the manager) and ’85 Cards (he was a coach) all lost in #7.
Mr. Schoendienst, a true gentleman, whom I met at the 1985 World Series spent most of his career with the Cardinals and is revered in the city of St. Louis.
