Recent Redux Of The Infamous 1919 World Series

July 6, 2018

Two days ago, the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Sox completed a series, a virtually meaningless one, between two teams an aggregate 38 games under the .500/break even mark. (The White Sox are 27 under .500 and two other A.L. teams the ’15 title winning Royals and Orioles under Buck Showalter, have worse marks)

Contrast this if you will, with their one post-season clash, that in the World Series 99 years ago in 1919.

The Reds won that series 5 games to 3.

Of course it was the infamous “fixed” World Series and all the overtones thereof, including the fact the great player, Joe Jackson was/is denied Hall of Fame status.

Now sports betting is legal, the leagues will take their cut and our society continues to “drain,” as in go down it.

Say it ain’t so!

The great player, Edd Roush, pictured above was a member of the 1919 Reds.

He always maintained the Reds would have won the 1919 World Series even if the White Sox had given a full effort.
