Subsequent To Milwaukee/L.A. ‘Offs Clashes Notes

November 7, 2026

Another time for “quarters” notes but recall “Road Runner” Travis and Green Bay/Milwaukee in ’67.

In 1969-1970, the New York Knicks, currently the NBA champions after a 53 year title drought, broke the Boston Celtics’ record of 17 straight wins and then won it all.

Ditto the 1970-1971 Milwaukee Bucks, who won 20 straight, breaking the Knicks’ mark of 18 and then went (12-2) in the ‘offs led by greats the then Lew Alcindor, before becoming Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Oscar Robertson, to win the crown.

“My” beloved 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers won a still major North American sports league 33 straight contests and took the first of what is now, 12 L.A. titles, half with me as a fan.

The ’71 Bucks “semi’d” the Lakers while in a clash between two great teams, the ’72 Lakers won a 6 game semi, that ended on a Saturday AFTERNOON at Milwaukee, vs the Bucks, each then as cited above, winning that season’s NBA title.

This year’s Brewers semi win vs L.A. (Dodgers) a reversal of last year’s semi and an unscheduled one in 1959, all were followed by the L.A./Milw winner taking the top prize.

Only in 2018, when L.A. 7’d Milwaukee in the NLCS/”semi” did the winner of a Milwaukee vs Los Angeles semi-final entity, fail to win the subsequent championship round.

In addition to winning and saving two games each, accounting for the needed four victories in the ’59 World Series for the Dodgers, Larry Sherry, pictured below, was the winning pitcher in game 1 of the unscheduled Dodgers/Braves best of 3 playoff in Game 1, at Milwaukee’s County Stadium.

Sherry was toasted for his efforts by Frank Sinatra.
