American League Update

Despite yesterday’s home loss vs the A’s, the Red Sox with a now (27-4) run are very likely baseball tournament participants.

Currently as were the final standings a year ago it is the Yankees as the “4” seed and Boston the “5” with a one plus game difference.

Perhaps the Tampa Bay Rays, such an admirable franchise are this year’s Blue Jays (and then some?), leading the “div” by four plus games.

Those 3 teams have clearly better records than any other American League teams, two of whom to be afforded tournament spots and one to get a first round 12/8 bye.

That is James “Red” Smith of the 1914 miracle and World Series champion Boston Braves, pictured above. Their season turnaround and final result would have at least registered with the great sportswriter Red Smith.
