“The People Versus Lenny Bruce” Is A Marvelous Play

June 21, 2026

“The People Vs Lenny Bruce” (through June 28th at Theatre Row 410 West 42nd Street), an amazing play, written by Susan Charlotte, with a stellar cast, combines some terrific humor with pathos to tell much of the story, regarding the railroading of a comedic genius, Lenny Bruce, in our own “250” nation.

That aside, a difficult reality to move anywhere near that far, “The People Versus Lenny Bruce” so well written by Ms. Charlotte surely entertained, while igniting those riveting emotions.

Antony Marsellis is the director.

The cast members all gave tremendous performances: Johnny Anthony as Lenny Bruce, Stephen Schnetzer as Bruce’s attorney (also narrator) the esteemed, still with us at 91, Martin Garbus, Dan Grimaldi as Herbert Ruhe, Ian Lithgow as Richard Kuh, Roberta Wallach as Dorothy Kilgallen, Timothy Doyle (Jules Feiffer) and Jonathan Spivey (Forrest Johnson).

Tidbits, Bruce’s material “come in,” enjoy and truly loved “Arizona” remark, among many.

Again, fantastic tidbits, meaningful to this day, relevant comments and I add speaking with friendly, personable cast members and Susan Charlotte, added to my great day at the theatre.

If you see it and clearly you ought to, maybe notice what I did, a coincidence involving Mr. Grimaldi. He was friendly and got a kick out of my noticing it.
