NHL: Canadiens/Bruins Series Notes

April 27, 2014

No two teams from the four major North American sports leagues have met more often in the post season than the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins.

They will face each other for the 34th time in this year’s NHL quarterfinals. Montreal leads the all-time playoff series vs Boston (24-9) having won an incredible 18 straight series at one point. However, the Bruins have won 7 of the last 11 series.

The top ranked Bruins are this year’s series favorites.

It should be quite a series and my not so bold prediction is that it will go at least six games.

Speaking of six game, Montreal/Boston series, the great Jean Beliveau scored in overtime to give Montreal a six game triumph vs Boston in 1969.

The next year, the Bruins won their first Stanley Cup in 29 years when the superb Bobby Orr scored in overtime to complete a four game sweep vs the St. Louis Blues.

Only the baseball New York Yankees, with 27, have more championships than the Canadiens among major North American sports league teams.
