NHL Update
With the NHL season in its final days, there is the possibility of not only all six “original teams” making the playoffs (five already have) but three first round playoff battles matching original teams.
Certain remaining regular season games will determine the first round pairings. The New York Rangers became the fifth original team to clinch a playoff spot when they came back from a (3-2) third period deficit to win at Carolina vs the Hurricanes.
The Detroit Red Wings bidding to extend their streak of making the playoffs to 22 straight seasons are in a three team battle for the two remaining spots in the NHL Western Conference.
We could even see three original-six match-ups in the first round. Boston vs NYR, Montreal vs Toronto, and Chicago vs Detroit. With realignment, it’s the last year when this will be possible.
First of all, thanks for your comment. Now it is the “next day” and there is one “original six” match-up.I know the Bruins beat Toronto in the ’72 Quarters which was the first round at that time.Hope to hear from you during the playoffs and at any point.Red Sox announcer Dave O’Brien “jinxed” the Bruins saying it looks like 3 wins for Boston teams yesterday. Speaking of announcers I fondly recall both Bob Wilson and Fred Cusick. If only we could hear them now.
Best, Andy B.
