Boston Teams Final Round Notes

February 5, 2026

The city/area of Boston will be seeking its 41st major sports league crown as near 5 point(s) underdogs, vs the Seattle Seahawks in the 60th Supe this Sunday.

N.E. hopes the 5 final round losses in three of the four major sports league final round entities stays at 5, as that is the total for not only the Patriots (6-5) in Supes, but also the glory team Celtics (18-5–think John Podres 1961–, once (15-1), and Boston baseball (10-5) as the Red Sox are a stellar (9-4) despite a once 86 year title drought, while the Braves, since in Milwaukee and currently in Atlanta, were (1-1).

Only in hockey (N.H.L.) where the Bruins are (6-14, (5-12 in best of 7 final rounds) in such entities, is Boston under .500 with the combined Celts/Red Sox final round record of 27-9–.750, not only superb, but arguably the best of any city combining two teams. Pittsburgh can “claim” (16-5), with a trio of teams (Steelers (6-2), Pirates (5-2) and the Penguins (5-1), for a not too shabby and (11-3) with the Steelers and Pens but with 22 less final rounds to consider. Each is mighty impressive.

Boston’s 40 previous crowns ranks second to New York’s 56 (in ’56 both the Yankees and Giants won crowns and it is ‘el numero de’ the great Giants linebacker, Lawrence Taylor) with the latter currently having 5 more franchises and no crowns since the NFL Giants, for a second time, upset the Patriots in the 2011 season Super Bowl.

Boston “goes in” (40-29) and as cited before, favorite Seattle is (2-3), (1-2) with its lone current team final round entrant, the Seahawks (1-2).

Author John Kinsella “found” “Moonlight” Graham, I just did same regarding (another) Billy Martin, a 1914 “Miracle” Boston Braves player, pictured above.

Neither player ever got a big league hit but did appear for an eventual “title team,” in said year–Graham, who never batted, doing so with the Christy Mathewson led 1905 New York Giants while Martin was 0 for 3 at the plate for those “Miracle 1914–just yesterday Stop and Shop began in that year, both my father and an uncle were born and as far as war—what’s good about it?–absolutely nothing—-yet …….
