Dodgers’ September 9 Vs The Cubs And Subsequent Titles Notes

November 3, 2024

On a most famous September 9th night in 1965 (Great performer and Dodgers’ fan Danny Kaye was there with a date, who did not understand why the excitement) the Dodgers won (1-0) vs the Chicago Cubs with Sandy Koufax pitching a perfect game, outdueling Bob Hendley, who allowed but one hit which did not come in the inning that L.A. scored the game’s lone run.

The Dodgers, 5 weeks later, won the crown.

Ten years earlier, while in Brooklyn, the franchise won its first title, the only one gained while the Brooklyn Dodgers in a season they played a doubleheader at the Cubs’ venerable Wrigley Field home.

Now for a third time a Dodgers’ World Series crown has manifested in a season in which they faced the Cubs on September 9th, having lost to “Chi” in L.A.

Additionally, when the Dodgers won their respective second and third crowns, now as L.A. in ’59 and ’63 they played games vs the Cubs on September 7th (’59) and September 5th (’63).

Dave Roberts who guided the Dodgers to the title is shown in “the still” leaping to “high five” Michael Cooper (I need to contact old friend, classy and great player “Coop,” and congratulate him on finally making the “Basketball Hall”).

The video is great, as Roberts is so happy to see from start to finish, Lakers’ title winners (minimum 2), A.C. Green, Kurt Rambis, Mychal Thompson, Michael Cooper, James Worthy (wearing Jackie Robinson’s 42), Kareem Abdul Jabbar (An 8 year old Kareem, a great fan of Jackie and the Dodgers was pacing in his apartment when John Podres and the Brooklyn Dodgers held on (2-0) to win the ’55 crown) and Byron Scott.
