Yesterday, while the Cleveland Guardians nee Indians won a scintillating, however, still likely aberration tilt vs the Yankees, doing so (7-5) in 10 innings, the Dodgers again ripped the Mets (their wins have been by (9-0), (8-0) and (10-2) last night, the Mets win in game 2 was by a (7-3) score) to take a seemingly commanding, 3 games to 1 lead in their NLCS.
The game 4 indicator (i.e. how did the #4 winner do in said series), in Dodgers’ franchise series, once clicked with wins in 23 consecutive series/possibilities from 1955-2016. “Furthermore to that,” as the great and friendly Isabel Sanford, who once called my home and her deep voice yielded my mom saying a man was the caller, as she summoned me to “el telepheno,” said to the great Sidney Poitier in “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner,” the #4 indicator is (3-4) since with 2 of the losses in the B.S. bubble/pandemic year of 2020, and was (5-2) before the Dodgers’ first title season of 1955, as Brooklyn lost in its first 7 Fall Classics (’16, ’20, and ’41,’47,’49,’52 and ’53 the last 5 to the Yankees and the last 6 of those 7, to a possible 2024 W.S. opponent as in 1920, Cleveland (5-2)’d them in a best of 9 W.S. , highlighted by Bill Wambsganss turning an unassisted triple play in game 4, a Cleveland win, the first of 4 straight to take that series.
In their first Friday NLCS game in ’77 at Philadelphia (Phillies), L.A. rallied for 3 runs down (5-3) with 2 outs none on and (6-5)’d Philly to take a (2-1) series lead.
Since that miracle Friday afternoon win, they have a (2-8) record in Friday NLCS tilts, (1-8) in non “bubble years.”
Today a Friday, the Dodgers hope to advance to their 22nd World Series (7-14 in previous) with a #5 win at New York vs the Mets, while Cleveland, (4-0) vs today’s Friday opponent, the Yankees in previous post-season Friday games, looks to get even in their ALCS, as they trail (2-1).
In James McBride’s brilliant (he called it tome and why not cite once Cleveland slugger Jim Thome, I believe pronounced the same) “The Heaven And Earth Grocery Store,” he talks of equality and the overwhelming need for it.
We are all the same and having cited Jewish culture and used Yiddish words, some “equal” time.
Did you notice with “Cleve” seemingly hopelessly out of it in the “twists and turns” #3 yesterday, TBS, which as with all of them, shows people in the stands far too often, down (5-3), 2 outs, none on, after a double play, showed a “Cleve garbed” fan “crossing himself.”
Then, after Lane Thomas 2b’d, (better that for “Cleve” backers, than a “solo,” as the Guardians were down 2 runs, pinch hitter Jhonkensy Noel, (his surname another name for the holiday celebrating Jesus’ birth, slammed a tying 2RHR in an eventual “Cleve,” still likely aberration win, in again, what was a scintillating, “roller coaster” classic game.
One of those 23 straight game 4 indicator wins was also a Dodgers’ #4/1965 W.S. win en route to the crown notched by Don Drysdale.
The video above (why age restricted as it is an exponentially G rated such) features “Big D”/Drysdale on an episode of “The Brady Bunch.”
Also in view Robert Reed, Florence Henderson and Barry Williams.
