Thoughts And Notes On Game 7 Of The 1960 World Series, Part 1
Now the first part of a look at the classic game 7 of the 1960 World Series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees.
Going into the game the Yankees had outscored the Buccos by a wide margin but of course it all came down to one game.
In 1981 during the baseball strike, WABC Radio, then the home of the New York Yankees, rebroadcast the game as well as other great World Series games from the past.
In 1989 I brought an audio tape of the game to the great broadcaster Bob Costas (one reason he is great at what he does is that Mr. Costas has a reverence for the great radio broadcasters of the past).
He was standing with broadcasters Ernie Harwell and Jon Miller and said somewhat gleefully that he just received a tape of game 7 of the 1960 World Series.
