NFC Review

December 5, 2012

While the Atlanta Falcons not only clinched the NFC South and moved closer to the NFC top seed, the other three NFC divisional races tightened.

Without playing on Sunday, having dispatched the Saints on Thursday night, Atlanta clinched the NFC South when the Denver Broncos beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Atlanta gained ground in their bid to be the NFC one seed for the second time in three seasons, when the other three NFC division leaders lost.

In the East: the Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles, who have lost eight straight games and fell to (3-9). On Monday night the Washington Redskins edged the division leading New York Giants. The Giants, with a (7-5) record, lead the Cowboys and Redskins, both of whom are (6-6). Comment: watch out for Dallas at Washington to be the Sunday night game in the final week.

While the Green Bay Packers went to (8-4) beating the Minnesota Vikings by nine points as a touchdown favorite, the Seattle Seahawks helped tighten two NFC division races by winning in overtime vs the Chicago Bears. Both the Packers and Bears are (8-4) and clash a week from Sunday in Chicago.

As stated, the Seahawks won at Chicago and that coupled with the St. Louis Rams’ win vs the San Francisco 49ers leaves Seattle just a game and a half behind the Niners in the NFC West.

New feature: A Super Bowl match up prediction that might change each week. Right now the prediction is  a redux of the 1998 season Supe as I will predict the Atlanta Falcons vs the Denver Broncos. There is a is long way to go, but Atlanta a very likely one seed. Denver has some intangibles, and obvious talent.
